Decent watch, probably wont watch again, and cant recommend unless you just wanted a body swap musical. While the musical part of the musical is fun and well performed, I didnt realize I was going to watch a musical unless (basically) seconds before I clicked play. I was wondering why Disney rebooted this title, but its clear that this is its own thing that happens to share the title because its under the same company. The magical hourglass, though an awkward prop, is a much better magic medium than a cookie, and The Hunt is a good enough of an idea that they could have made a entire movie based on that, without anything else and it has potential to be a best seller. I also liked that they developed a lot of the supporting actors and antagonist in this version. However sometimes they do that because the main characters are weak and they need to compensate. Part of it the way theyre written, and its not like these are bad actors, but theyre low level actors that probably were selected based on contracts and musical experience, and Ill be honest I didnt care for most of the acting in this. Having just watch the 2003 version, I just dont think this holds up.
I dont even know what to say... I somehow kinda liked it. I can understand that 1.7 average rating (ouch!) but at the same time I truly didnt even mind this 2018 remake/adaptation of Mary Rodgers 1972 novel. This incarnation of emFreaky Friday/em switches the story into a musical. My brain was constantly telling me throughout that events onscreen were bad and yet I evidently hold nothing against it - if anything the opposite, to be honest. Im just as surprised as you! Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Heidi Blickenstaff are actually enjoyable in the lead roles and, Im sorry, but At Last Its Me is a lowkey bop. Of course its a million miles away from being anything close to perfect but for what it is - a made-for-television Disney Channel teenager flick - I cant give it any hate. Is 7/10 generous?^ Probably, but whatcha gonna do. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
